Theatre Teaching Artist Lynne Streeter Childress

This week we return to Maryland, where TAMA Director @khaleshia tosses the torch of the MD thread to Lynne Streeter Childress, based in Annapolis. Her story is a familiar, commonly heard one in the profession—a winding, ever-expansive journey toward claiming the title of a teaching artist. As a theatre artist, she brings props and takes a risk! You may feel a certain closeness to Lynne as she allows vulnerability and speaks authentically to us. If so, reach out to her at Building Better People Productions. Now is the time to empower each other, share, connect, and build bravery in teaching artistry! Starting today, let’s celebrate and amplify each other and give every Teaching Artist in our region the spotlight to be seen.

As Lynne shares her responses, start crafting your response to:

  • What is something that a teaching artist does that is invisible?
  • What is your creative skill superpower?
  • Tell us about when you discovered your voice as a Teaching Artist.
  • Tell us about a project that you are working on.

Now because it’s #FollowFriday, let’s follow her! You can find Lynne on FB or IG. Check out the forum for this blog here, where you can connect with Lynne and the many others that are gathering through TAMA’s website!

Yesterday as the first-ever National TA Conference concluded, Teaching Artists across the nation committed to staying connected and organizing local networks. Since the beginning, TAMA has been dedicated to seeding local networks across our region. This series amplifies our voices and nurtures the connectivity for us to organize locally. Who is in your sphere of influence? Don’t know what or how to develop a sphere of influence, drop by the TA Cafe! Check out our event calendar and mark your calendar today.

And don’t forget to celebrate Lynne on #TeachingArtistTuesday. Imagine if everyone across our region gave Lynne some love over the next seven days. How might she feel? Imagine if we recognized our relationships with one another as in collaboration versus in competition. How might our collective collaboration impact the field?

Are YOU a TA who resides in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia? Now is the time to join TAMA and participate in conversations happening in our regional network.
