We’ve been planning our message off and on since last June. Who is ready to help share it? Interested in supporting the final touches? Will you email a written statement to your legislators? Will you be showing up virtually to speak? Let us know.
Hi Khaleshia,
I look forward to attending. I’m new-ish to Tama and attended the coffee chat today.
Thanks so much,
Laura
I signed up too.
Marcie
Hey folks! I wanted to introduce you to the letter we’ve been working on. Khaleshia went to a meeting last week that the Maryland Citizens for the Arts (MCA) hosted. The four bullets at the top are what MCA is encouraging we all support. Does anyone know what SB167 is? Can someone reach out to Nick Cohen and see if he can give TAMA an explanation of it? I did a search and I’m not finding it. If you reach out, you can copy Khaleshia and I. president@teachingartists.org and maryland@teachingartists.org Read the rest of the letter and please provide any suggested edits, especially on the second half of the letter that is highlighted. I wrote that part today. 🙂
LOVE YOU ALL!!!
I’m glad that this meeting went well. I’m excited to push forward with this team!
Hi Folks, Laura, I added your edits to the letter. I made a few more edits to trim it down too. Do you see other important edits? Check it out here. I also created some social media Instagram posts for the day. Check them out here. I might think of some other creative images and ways to translate the ideas of the letter in the next 24 hours. Or do you have ideas to share here?
I adapted the Equitable Principles of Teaching Artistry into an Instagram post. What do you think? I want to begin to post this next Tuesday on Teaching Artist Tuesdays!
A handful of Maryland TAMA members wrote this letter in collaboration. Make it your own and write or call your legislators and ask for what we need. Find your legislators here! Your voice is important to our collective movement! Together, we are stronger! Start today – Maryland Arts Advocacy Day – or start tomorrow, Next week, or Next month. It’s never too late to start (and use the letter). Write legislators. Call legislators. Once, twice, three times. You can even drop by a local office! Do it on your own. Go with a partner. Participate as a team! Is anyone interested in organizing a day where we visit legislators between now and June?
Also, follow TAMA’s social media calls today! Like and comment on our posts. Tag YOUR legislator or a local leader. Then, repost and share our posts ALL DAY using these hashtags. Again, it’s never too late to do this. By the end of the week, can we have 50 likes and 20 shares? Seriously, can we? Encourage others!
I’m looking forward to seeing this team on Wednesday! Will you all be in Takoma Park for the in person co-working office hours? It would be great to plan a day for us to go to Annapolis together!
Delegate Wanika Fisher will be at Art Works Now on Friday, March 10, 9:30-11 AM. Can anyone go? We need to tell speak to Delegates in person about our letter. Who is interested in going to Annapolis with me?
Jennifer

One of the challenges of our profession is that there is very little data about who we are, what we do and where we are working. Without a documentable presence, it’s difficult to advocate for funding and policies that benefit our work. Your profile will both help promote your work individually and it will help us aggregate data for our region. As you fill in the blanks below, you will have a choice as to who is allowed to see some of the information. Please note that the “Just Me” option does allow TAMA administration to see what you’ve entered. For example, when you enter your phone number, you can prevent that from appearing in your profile if you like, but TAMA administration can see it.
